The guys at Panic (the guys who make some simple but awesome Mac apps) built themselves a 'status board' in their office to keep track of projects that they are working on and of course, just for fun!
What’s on the board?
The idea quickly grew beyond “Project Status”, and has become a hub of all sorts of internal Panic information. What you’re actually looking at is an internal-only webpage that updates frequently using AJAX which shows:
- E-Mail Queue — number of messages / number of days.
- Project Status — sorry for the heavy censorship — you know how it is!
- Important Countdowns
- Revenue — comparing yesterday to the day before, not so insightful (yet).
- Live Tri-Met Bus Arrivals — when it’s time to go home!
- The Panic Calendar
- Employee Twitter Messages
- Any @Panic Twitter Messages
I think this is one of the best things to have in an office. I would love to build one of these for my personal usage as well ! The guys at Panic have also shared some of the implementation details on this page to help interested geeks, to understand what went behind this simple but great digital artefact.
Here is where they got inspired to build this board in the first place! A different approach and not as good as having a delicious implementation on a 46" screen like Panic, but one must always give more credit to the inspiration then the inspired!
